AAHA Accreditation: Great news for Avets Clients and Pets

As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality of care and service, Avets has achieved accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Our hospital has received both the Traditional and Referral AAHA accreditation after a rigorous review of our practice protocols, medical equipment, facility, and client service. Unlike human hospitals, not all veterinary hospitals are required to be accredited. Only about 12%–15% of veterinary practices in the United States and Canada are AAHA accredited, and Avets is proud to be one of them.

What Is AAHA Accreditation?

Accredited veterinary hospitals are those that choose to be evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards that go above and beyond basic state regulations, ranging from patient care and pain management to staff training and advanced diagnostic services. AAHA-accredited hospitals are recognized among the finest in the industry and are consistently at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine. Once accredited, AAHA standards are continuously reviewed and updated to keep those practices on the cutting edge of veterinary excellence.

What is an AAHA-accredited referral practice?

Hospitals that have earned this accreditation are evaluated on practice methods, standards of patient care, and quality of the facility and medical equipment by trained AAHA consultants. Maintaining this accreditation requires regular AAHA evaluations. To achieve accreditation as a referral practices, hospitals are required to have a board-certified veterinarian on staff for each specialty within the hospital.

What Is AAHA?

AAHA, or the American Animal Hospital Association, is the only organization in the United States and Canada that accredits companion animal veterinary practices, setting the highest standards for veterinary care. AAHA is respected internationally for its dedication to professional development, accreditation standards, and educational programs. Achieving accreditation ensures that we provide quality care to our patients and clients by following established AAHA standards in daily practice. According to survey research:

  • 81% of pet owners said they would choose an AAHA-accredited veterinary practice over a nonaccredited practice
  • 51% would drive farther to have their pet treated at an AAHA-accredited practice

Pet owners look for AAHA-accredited hospitals because they can expect to receive the highest quality care from expert veterinary professionals.

AAHA’s Mission ito:

  • Enhance the abilities of veterinarians to provide quality medical care to companion animals
  • Enable veterinarians to successfully conduct their practices and maintain their facilities with high standards of excellence
  • Meet the public’s needs as they relate to the delivery of small-animal veterinary medicine

Why Get AAHA-Accredited? Why does AAHA Accreditation Matter?

Achieving AAHA-Accreditation shows our commitment to quality care. To comply, we must meet over 900 standards that span all hospital departments – medical and support. Re-accreditation takes place every few  years to verify our compliance and ensure we are up to date with new AAHA standards.
