Our History

Through the years, we’ve grown from an after-hours emergency hospital into a nationally recognized emergency, critical care, and specialty center. We’re proud to offer you and your pet an advanced facility staffed by a caring team of top veterinarians and technicians.

At Avets, we’re with you every step of the way, offering passionate expertise in emergency and specialty care. Our team of board-certified specialists combine their extensive training with Avets’ cutting-edge equipment to address your pet’s advanced surgical, imaging, and medical needs.

For over 25 years, we’ve provided specialty and emergency care to Western Pennsylvania and the tri-state area at our Monroeville, PA location. We’re always here for you—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

1994

Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Associates (AVEA), an after-hours veterinary emergency clinic in Plum, was founded by a Western Pennsylvania native.

1996

AVEA moved to a nearby independent building on Route 286, transforming into a 24-hour emergency and critical care facility.

2005

AVEA added veterinary specialists and became Avets (Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Trauma & Specialty). We expanded into a new facility one mile from the Monroeville exits of I-376 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

2015

Avets became one of the first 15 hospitals in the country to earn the designation of becoming a VECCS Level 1 emergency and critical care facility.

2019

Avets celebrated 25 years of providing advanced veterinary care to the Western Pennsylvania region.

2021

Avets moved into a brand-new, 19,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility with expanded services and technology.

The Angel Fund

Avets believes there are situations that would be less tragic for pets in our community if financial assistance were available. With this in mind, Avets has aligned with the AVMF’s Veterinary Care Charitable Fund to create The Angel Fund.
